Effexor XR is used for healing depression, generalized or social phobia, or panic attacks. Effexor XR is a serotoninnorepinephrine re-uptake inhibitor (SNRI). It works by restoring the stability of certain natural substances in the brain (serotonin and norepinephrine), which helps to improve certain mood problems.
Use Effexor XR as instructed by your physician.
Simply take Effexor XR by mouth with meals.
Take Effexor XR having a full glass of water.
Consume Effexor XR whole. Don't break, smash, chew, or place in water before taking. If you can't consume the tablet whole, you might open it and sprinkle the contents over a spoonful of applesauce. Mix the medication with the applesauce and consume the mixture immediately, followed by a glass of plain water. Do not crush or chew the medication before swallowing.
Effexor XR works best if it's taken at once each day.
Continue to take Effexor XR even though you feel well. Do not skip any dose.
Do not abruptly quit using Effexor XR without checking with your physician. Side effects might occur. Don't use Effexor XR if:
You're sensitive to any ingredient in Effexor XR
You're getting or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine), selegiline, or St. John's wort within the last 14 days
you are taking a fenfluramine derivative (eg, dexfenfluramine), methylene blue, nefazodone, sibutramine, or tryptophan.
Contact your doctor or physician at once if one of these apply to you personally.
Some medical conditions might interact with Effexor XR. If you got any health conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you tell your doctor or pharmacist:
if you are pregnant, intending to become pregnant, or are breast feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
For those who are allergic to medicines, foods, or other substances

Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), aspirin, or nonsteroidal anti inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen) because the chance of bleeding, including stomach bleeding, may be raised
Diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) because the danger of reduced blood salt levels might be increased
Azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole) or cimetidine because they may increase the danger of Effexor XR's side effects
Cyproheptadine because it might reduce Effexor XR's effectiveness
Aripiprazole, haloperidol, phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine, thioridazine), or risperidone because the chance of these side effects may be increased by Effexor XR.
