Aldactone is used for treating swelling and fluid retention in patients with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or kidney problems (nephrotic syndrome). It can also be employed when treating excessive secretion of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal gland. Aldactone is a diuretic. Use Aldactone as instructed by your physician.
Take Aldactone orally with or without food. Take with food to reduce gut irritation, if stomach upset happens.
Aldactone might increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often when you first begin taking it. To help keep this from disturbing your sleep, attempt to take your dose before 6 pm.

Some health conditions may interact with Aldactone. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you got any health conditions, particularly if any of the following apply to you:

Some medications may interact with Aldactone. Inform your doctor should you be taking any other medications, especially any of the following:

Non-steroidal antiinflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) (eg, indomethacin) because they might decrease Aldactone's effectiveness and increase the danger of kidney issues and high blood potassium
Digoxin, digitoxin, lithium, nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (eg, tubocurarine), or quinidine because the risk of the toxicity and side effects could be raised by Aldactone
Pressor amines (eg, norepinephrine) because their usefulness can be decreased by Aldactone.

Important safety information:
Aldactone can cause dizziness or sleepiness. These effects might be worse for it with alcohol or particular medications. Use Aldactone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you realize how you react to it.
