Eckhart plays Frankenstein's creation as cross between a brooding super-hero and Rambo. Despite being the individual equivalent of a thrift-store combine and match group, he is pretty powerful and nimble. Too bad regarding the scars but at least he doesn't have to cope with the top bolts. He even pulls the attention of a fairly blonde scientist (Yvonne Strahovski, from Chuck and Dexter) whose motive if you are in the movie is to be pretty and blond. Bill Nighy gets a few scenery eating minutes as the king of the demons, but they are maybe not nearly enough to provide rest from the tediousness. As the queen of the gargoyles, Miranda Otto shows up to collect her pay check.
