Ibuprofen is used for healing rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, menstrual cramps, or mild to moderate pain. Motrin is an NSAID. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory treat the symptoms of pain and inflammation. They do not treat the disease which causes those symptoms.
Use Motrin as instructed by your doctor.
Take Motrin by mouth with or without any food. It may be taken with food if it upsets your stomach. Using it with foods may not decrease the danger of gut or bowel problems (eg, bleeding, ulcers). Talk with your physician or druggist if you have continual stomach upset.
Take Ibuprofen with a full glass of water (8 oz/240 mL) as directed by your doctor.
If you miss a dose of Ibuprofen and you are taking it frequently, take it as soon as possible. When it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take more than one dose at once.
Ask your physician any questions that may have regarding the proper use of Ibuprofen.
Store Motrin at common indoor temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Motrin outside of the reach of children and from animals.
Do NOT use Ibuprofen if:
You're sensitive to any ingredient in Motrin
You've had a severe allergic reaction (eg, severe rash, hives, trouble breathing, growths in the nose, dizziness) to aspirin or an NSAID (eg, ibuprofen, celecoxib)
you have recently had or may be having bypass heart surgery
you are within the last 3 weeks of pregnancy.
Contact your physician or health care provider at once if any of these apply to you.
Some medical conditions may interact with Motrin. Tell your physician or druggist if you hold any health conditions, particularly if any of the following apply to you:
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
In case you are using any prescription or nonprescription medication, herbal product, or dietary supplement
if you are allergic to medicines, foods, or other substances
For those who have a history of kidney or liver disease, diabetes, or gut or bowel problems (eg, hemorrhage, perforation, ulcers)
In case you have a history of swelling or fluid build-up, lupus, asthma, or stones in the nostril (nasal polyps), or mouth inflammation
if you have hypertension, blood disorders, bleeding or clotting problems, heart problems (eg, heart failure), or blood vessel disease, or whether you are in danger for one or more of these diseases
When you have poor health, dehydration or low liquid volume, or low blood sodium levels, you drink alcohol, or you have a history of alcohol misuse.
Some medications may interact with Motrin. Communicate to your doctor if you're taking any other medications, particularly any of the following:
Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), bayer, corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), heparin, or selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine) because the danger of stomach bleeding may be increased
Probenecid because it may increase the risk of Motrin 's side effects
Cyclosporine, lithium, methotrexate, or quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin) because the chance of these side effects may be raised by Motrin
Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (eg, enalapril) or diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) because their usefulness may be decreased by Motrin.
This may not be a complete listing of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Motrin may interact with other medications which you take. Check with your physician before you begin, stop, or change the dosage of any medication.
Important safety advice:
Motrin can cause dizziness or sleepiness. These effects might be worse for it with alcohol or specific medicines. Use Motrin with caution. Do not drive or execute other potential unsafe jobs until you realize how you respond to it.
Serious gut ulcers or bleeding can occur with the use of Motrin. Using it in large doses or for quite a long time, smoking, or ethanol increases the chance of the unwanted side effects. Using Motrin with food won't reduce the risk of the effects. Contact your doctor or emergency room right away should you develop severe stomach or back pain; dark, tarry stools; vomit that looks like blood or coffee grounds; or unusual weight gain or swelling.
Do not take more than the recommended serving or use for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor.
Ibuprofen has ibuprofen within it. Check the label to see whether it has ibuprofen in it also, before you start any new medicine. If it does or in case you are not convinced, talk with your physician or pharmacist.
Don't take aspirin when you are using Ibuprofen unless your physician tells you to.
Lab tests, including complete blood cell counts, kidney function, and blood pressure, might be performed to track your progress or to verify for side effects. Make sure you keep all doctor and lab appointments.
Use Motrin with caution in the elderly; they might be more sensitive to the effects, including stomach bleeding and kidney issues.
Motrin should be used with extreme caution in children; security and effectiveness in children have not yet been validated.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Motrin may cause injury to the fetus. Don't go during the last 3 weeks of pregnancy. If you believe you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. When you are pregnant you'll need to discuss the dangers and benefits of using Ibuprofen. It is not recognized if Ibuprofen is found in mother's milk. Don't breast-feed while taking Motrin.
