Aldactone is used for treating swelling and fluid retention in patients with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or kidney problems (nephrotic syndrome). It's also used for treatment of hypertension. It may also be utilized to treat or prevent low blood potassium. It can also be employed when treating excessive secretion of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal gland. Aldactone is a diuretic. It works by preventing the hormone aldosterone, causing the kidney to conserve potassium, eliminate excessive water, and lower blood pressure.

Use Aldactone as instructed by your physician.
Take Aldactone orally with or without food. Take with food to reduce gut irritation, if stomach upset happens.
Aldactone might increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often when you first begin taking it. To help keep this from disturbing your sleep, attempt to take your dose before 6 pm.
Go as soon as possible, in the event that you miss a dose of Aldactone. If it's nearly time for your following dose, skip the missed dosage and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Some health conditions may interact with Aldactone. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you got any health conditions, particularly if any of the following apply to you:
In case you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or are breast feeding
If you're taking any prescription or non-prescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
For those who are allergic to medicines, foods, or other materials
In case you have high acidity in the body fluids; low blood salt levels; high blood potassium levels; kidney, liver, or heart disease; diabetes; or high urea or nitrogen in your blood
When you have menstrual disorder.
Some medications may interact with Aldactone. Inform your doctor should you be taking any other medications, especially any of the following:
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (corticotropin) (ACTH) or corticosteroids (eg, prednisone) or because low blood electrolyte levels might occur
Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital) or narcotics (eg, morphine) because lightheadedness upon standing may happen
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (eg, enalapril), angiotensin II receptor antagonists (eg, valsartan), cyclosporine, macrolide immunosuppressives (eg, tacrolimus), other aldosterone-blockers (eg, eplerenone), other potassium sparing diuretics (eg, amiloride, triamterene), or potassium supplements because high blood potassium levels may happen (eg, listlessness, confusion, abnormal skin sensations of the arms and thighs, heaviness of limbs, slowed heart rate, abnormal heart beat, potentially life-threatening slow or irregular pulse)
Non-steroidal antiinflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) (eg, indomethacin) because they might decrease Aldactone's effectiveness and increase the danger of kidney issues and high blood potassium
Digoxin, digitoxin, lithium, nondepolarizing muscle relaxants (eg, tubocurarine), or quinidine because the risk of the toxicity and side effects could be raised by Aldactone
Pressor amines (eg, norepinephrine) because their usefulness can be decreased by Aldactone.

Important safety information:
Aldactone can cause dizziness or sleepiness. These effects might be worse for it with alcohol or particular medications. Use Aldactone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you realize how you react to it.
Aldactone can increase your system's potassium levels. This is more apt to happen in people with kidney problems or diabetes, in the elderly, or if the individual is gravely ill.
