Effexor XR is used for healing depression, generalized or social phobia, or panic attacks. Effexor XR is a serotoninnorepinephrine re-uptake inhibitor (SNRI). It works by restoring the stability of certain natural substances in the brain (serotonin and norepinephrine), which helps to improve certain mood problems.

Use Effexor XR as instructed by your physician.
Simply take Effexor XR by mouth with meals.
Take Effexor XR having a full glass of water.
Consume Effexor XR whole. Don't break, smash, chew, or place in water before taking. If you can't consume the tablet whole, you might open it and sprinkle the contents over a spoonful of applesauce. Mix the medication with the applesauce and consume the mixture immediately, followed by a glass of plain water. Do not crush or chew the medication before swallowing.
Effexor XR works best if it's taken at once each day.
Continue to take Effexor XR even though you feel well. Do not skip any dose.
Do not abruptly quit using Effexor XR without checking with your physician. Side effects might occur. They might include mental or mood changes, numbness or tingling of the skin, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, headache, increased sweating, loss of coordination or balance, flu-like symptoms, nausea, tinnitus, seizures, tremor, trouble sleeping, or unusual fatigue.
If you miss a dosage of Effexor XR, take it as as soon as you can. When it is almost time for your following dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.

Store Effexor XR at room temperatures, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Keep away from heat, moisture, and light. Don't store in the toilet. Retain Effexor XR outside of the range of children and from pets.
Don't use Effexor XR if:
You're sensitive to any ingredient in Effexor XR
You're getting or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine), selegiline, or St. John's wort within the last 14 days
you are taking a fenfluramine derivative (eg, dexfenfluramine), methylene blue, nefazodone, sibutramine, or tryptophan.
Contact your doctor or physician at once if one of these apply to you personally.
Some medical conditions might interact with Effexor XR. If you got any health conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you tell your doctor or pharmacist:
if you are pregnant, intending to become pregnant, or are breast feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
For those who are allergic to medicines, foods, or other substances
In the event that you or a family member has a history of bi-polar disorder (manicdepression), other mental or mood issues, suicidal thoughts or even attempts, or even alcohol or substance abuse
For those who have a history of convulsions, heart problems (eg, heart failure, abnormal pulse), abnormal electrocardiograms (ECGs), a recent heart attack, high blood pressure, an over-active thyroid, liver difficulties, lung issues, kidney issues, belly or bowel bleeding, blood or bleeding problems, increased eye pressure (eg, glaucoma), nervous system difficulties, or metabolism problems
In case you are dehydrated, have low blood sodium levels, or drink alcohol

Certain diet medicines (eg, phentermine, fenfluramine), linezolid, lithium, MAOIs (eg, phenelzine), methylene blue, metoclopramide, nefazodone, rasagiline, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine), selegiline, serotonin 5-HT1 receptor agonists (eg, sumatriptan), sibutramine, SNRIs (eg, duloxetine),St. John's wort, tramadol, trazodone, tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline), or tryptophan because acute side effects, such as a response that may include fever, inflexible muscles, blood pressure changes, mental changes, confusion, irritability, agitation, delirium, and coma, may happen
Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), aspirin, or nonsteroidal anti inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen) because the chance of bleeding, including stomach bleeding, may be raised
Diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide) because the danger of reduced blood salt levels might be increased
Azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole) or cimetidine because they may increase the danger of Effexor XR's side effects
Cyproheptadine because it might reduce Effexor XR's effectiveness
Aripiprazole, haloperidol, phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine, thioridazine), or risperidone because the chance of these side effects may be increased by Effexor XR.
